Tail grab

Description

Tail grab is done off the kicker. The secret is a steady approach speed and a push straight up, not forward: the ramp gives you the air, you only have to stay compact and find the grab. Grab the tail with the back hand.

How it's done

1. 01

   Aim at the kicker on a progressive edge at a steady speed: do not accelerate in the last few metres.

2. 02

   Ride up the ramp with your knees bent and push upward at the lip (pop).

3. 03

   In the air bring your knees to your chest: from there the grab comes by itself.

4. 04

   Hold the grab as long as you can, then let go and extend your legs.

5. 05

   Land on the front of the board with your weight slightly back.

Common mistakes

• Reaching for the grab by bending your back instead of lifting your knees.
• Braking on the kicker out of fear: you lose the pop.
• Letting the handle drift away from your body in flight.
